Harris Corp. has named Michael Arthur to the newly created position of business development leader, sports and entertainment, for its Broadcast Communications business. An 18-year veteran of the sports marketing field, Arthur will be responsible for creating unique marketing strategies, identifying prospective clients, managing key customer relationships, and growing Harris business in the stadium and arena market, according to the company.

Arthur comes to Harris after eight years as owner of Little Engine, a sports marketing consultancy firm serving such clients as Nielsen Media Research, Grand Prix of Denver, Bandimere Speedway, and Vail Resorts and Vail Valley Foundation. His career also includes executive-level marketing roles at NASCAR, Ascent Sports, Colorado Rockies Baseball Club, and Texaco/Havoline Denver Grand Prix.

“As stadiums, arenas, and other live event venues are converting their facilities to support high-definition and adding digital signage and out-of-home advertising to enhance the fan experience, Harris is rapidly becoming a technology supplier in this key emerging market,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications, in a statement. “We are pleased to be able to attract a sports marketer like Mike, who brings strong connections in this market, executive relationships with many of the teams and venues, and broad understanding of the customers’ business drivers and ROI models.”

“I look forward to working with former colleagues as new facilities are developed and existing structures are updated with digital, HD, and next-generation electronic sign concepts, creating new revenue stream opportunities and a better overall fan experience,” said Arthur in a statement.
