Hitachi Debuts Portable XGA Projector

Hitachi America introduced the CPX9 Portable Series LCD projector, which the company says is ideal for use in classrooms, conference rooms, on the road or anywhere a lightweight, high-quality, high-value projector is needed.
Weighing less than five pounds and measuring just 12 by 8.7 by 3 inches, the CPX9 can project images up to 300 inches in diagonal at XGA resolution, 3,200 lumens brightness, and 16.7 million colors. It has an exclusive whiteboard mode that adjusts the projector’s brightness when used with a whiteboard to reduce glare and eye strain. Another feature unique to Hitachi projectors, according to the company, is its template function that displays lines, circles or a world map, making it easier to write on an interactive whiteboard.
The CPX9 provides HDMI, S-Video and composite video inputs, an RGB computer video input and monitor output, two RCA audio inputs, and an audio output. It includes a built-in speaker and an audio pass-through function that enables the audio to play through the projector’s audio output even in standby (lamp off) mode when only sound is required. It also has an RS-232C port that enables it to be controlled as part of an integrated AV system.
The projector’s Input Source Naming feature lets the user customize the names of input sources instead of using the factory default settings. The projector’s remote offers MyMemory, MyText, MySource and MyScreen buttons for fast access to frequently used functions and sources.
Additional features include a Kensington Lock and transition detector that disables the projector if it’s moved without authorization, a power saving mode (less than 0.5W in Eco Mode), and closed captioning capability. A soft case is included as a standard accessory for use as a mobile projector.
Hitachi officials said the CPX9 is designed for easy maintenance, with a hybrid air/fan filter that allows less frequent cleaning (default 5,000 hours free maintenance), and an easy access lamp compartment.
