Luminus Devices’ PhlatLight LEDs appear in four of the latest LED-based projectors to come out of InfoComm 09, according to company officials.

Luminus teamed with Coretronic and Texas Instruments (TI) on a new DLP-based data projector illuminated by PhlatLight LEDs. Luminus officials say it’s the first of its kind to offer light output is suitable for classrooms and boardrooms, and represents a milestone in the conversion of projection systems to solid-state illumination.

“This is an important milestone for data projectors,” said Stephane Bellosguardo, director of product marketing for the Projection Display Business at Luminus Devices, in a statement.

“Working with Coretronic and Luminus Devices, TI is excited about launching a lamp-free data projector [to lower] total cost of ownership, “said Roger Carver, business manager for DLP Front Projection at TI, in a statement.

The PT-39 PhlatLight LED chipset can be found powering BenQ’s new JoyBee mini projector. In this case, Luminus and TI combined technologies to make the JoyBee for on-the-go professionals, gamers, and other mobile system enthusiasts. The chipset is designed specifically for projection systems that use micro-displays ranging from 0.4-0.55 inches with individual red, green, and blue PhlatLight LEDs.

Likewise, LG went with PhlatLight LEDs to power its new HS-102 pocket projector. The new LG HS-200G weighs less than 2 pounds and fits in the palm of a hand.

Projectiondesign also chose PhlatLight LEDs to power its new FL32 series of professional projectors. The FL32 series provides advanced image quality and performance for a demanding scientific visualization and simulation applications, according to the company. PhlatLight LEDs enable instant start-ups without the warm-up or cool-down period required by lamp-based projectors, says Luminus.

According to the company, PhlatLight LEDs are larger than conventional LEDs and designed to operate at high intensity and produce more than 50 percent wider color gamut than the National Television Systems Committee standard.
