NEC Merges Display Solutions and Digital Cinema
According to the company, this transaction broadens NEC Display Solutions’ product portfolio of displays and projectors while offering loyal NEC exhibitor, studio, and post-production customers a complete set of display solutions with streamlined customer support and greatly enhanced sales coverage.
NEC Display Solutions of America has announced its decision to integrate the Digital Cinema Division of NEC Corp. of America into its display business. (Last November, PRO AV wrote that separate large-venue projector and digital cinema businesses can hinder integrators).
According to the company, this transaction broadens NEC Display Solutions’ product portfolio of displays and projectors while offering loyal NEC exhibitor, studio, and post-production customers a complete set of display solutions with streamlined customer support and greatly enhanced sales coverage. NEC Display Solutions is further aligning itself with the company’s other display business units worldwide by supporting the same business structure and having the Digital Cinema group fall under NEC Display Solutions’ umbrella.
“This transaction better supports our current and future business plans while strengthening our global strategy,” said Pierre Richer, president and chief operating officer of NEC Display Solutions, in a statement. “NEC’s digital cinema projectors [serve] some of the largest theater chains, studios, and post-production houses in North America. We welcome the opportunity to grow our presence in the exhibitor community not only with digital cinema projectors, but additional offerings and technologies as well.”
The company says the logical shift of the Digital Cinema Division to NEC Display Solutions is part of NEC Corp. of America’s strategy to focus its full resources on supporting and growing its IT and network solutions business.
