Optoma Technology has introduced the HD20, the company’s first 1080p DLP digital projector for less than $1,000. Priced at $999, the home theater projector offers 1,700 ANSI lumens and a 4,000:1 contrast ratio.

“This new low price opens up a whole new audience to the high-definition, large-screen home theater projection experience,” said Jon Grodem, director of product and marketing for Optoma, in a statement. “Viewers will love how the HD20 displays an image more than nine times larger than a 40-inch flat-screen television, projecting a screen size image greater than 120 inches.”

According to the company, the HD20 offers many of the features also found on more expensive home theater projectors. Based on Texas Instruments’ 1080p DLP chipset and BrilliantColor technology, the projector comes with two HDMI inputs that allow users to connect to more than one entertainment device at a time. It also has VGA, Component, and Composite video inputs for other connections.

The 6.4-pound HD20 operates at a native 1080p resolution, but is compatible with most computer formats, such as UXGA, WXGA, SXGA_, SXGA, XGA, SVGA, VGA resided, VESA, PC, and Mac. It can also accepts common global video inputs and video formats up to 1080p, the company says.

The projector’s DLP engine operates without filters, and officials say the accompanying lamp is rated to last up to 4,000 hours in standard mode or 3,000 in bright mode. The HD20 also features rapid shutdown and comes with a one-year parts and labor warranty. The lamp is covered for 90 days.
