Panamax/Furman is shipping the latest addition to its PFPower in-wall family, the MIW-SURGE-1G. The company also released an enhanced version of its MIW-SURGE that’s optimized for easier installation, officials said. The units are designed for AC power protection of flat-panel displays that are mounted close to the wall and other components located away from the main system rack or cabinet. The MIW-SURGE’s standard size and ease of installation also suits it to protecting other electronics, such as home office systems and appliances.

The new MIW-SURGE-1G features two surge-protected outlets with Protect or Disconnect circuitry and fits in standard single-gang plastic or metal outlet boxes. To ensure compatibility with most standard installations, the unit uses standard wiring device screw-hole alignment. An LED displays power status in green or a line fault in red. The MIW-SURGE-1G is compatible with Decora faceplates, allowing for seamless integration into any home theater design or home décor.

The MIW-SURGE was given an updated design for faster and easier installation in common plastic retro electrical boxes, allowing the unit to be installed in less than 10 minutes by a licensed high-voltage installer, company officials said. The MIW-SURGE provides one AC outlet of in-wall, point-of-use surge protection with a variety of signal side options including Decora adapters and keystone port compatibility for a clean cable management solution for mounted displays and other surface installed devices.

“The latest additions to our in-wall family provide a number of benefits to installers and their customers,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Panamax/Furman, in a statement. “In addition to eliminating the need for a second power management unit for remotely located equipment, or the running of unsightly extension cords, the MIW-SURGE-1G is bolstered with Protect or Disconnect circuitry and an intuitive bi-colored LED for determining power status. The upgraded MIW-SURGE dramatically reduces time in the field for installers, lowering labor costs and getting them on to the next job more quickly.”
