Polycom has expanded its telepresence solution portfolio with the new Open Telepresence Experience (OTX) 300. The immersive solution delivers true-to-life collaboration, says the company, with full 1080p video at up to half the bandwidth of comparable systems.

According to the company, Polycom OTX 300 supports HD video using up to 50 percent less bandwidth than competing solutions through Polycom’s implementation of H.264 High Profile, a new standards-based video compression technology. Currently available only from Polycom, H.264 High Profile lowers the costs of network bandwidth required for telepresence, and can help organizations expand their video deployment without having to invest in large-scale network upgrades, says the company.

The OTX 300 also boasts other capabilities. Along with a uniquely designed environment, the system offers conversation stereo audio, full 1080p video, and HD content sharing on monitors that automatically rise on demand (all protected by Lost Packet Recovery) for an immersive experience. A standards-based design provides connectivity with an estimated 2 million other standards-based telepresence and videoconferencing endpoints currently in use. As part of the Polycom Open Collaboration Network, OTX 300 will support native integration with Microsoft UC environments, including the Polycom Conferencing for Outlook solution that makes visual communications simpler to schedule and use within Microsoft Outlook.

Polycom’s OTX 300 also features a modern design that provides a consistent room-to-room experience and collaboration, according to the company. Front and rear environmental walls and an optimized lighting package improve acoustic and visual quality and minimize room modification requirements, says Polycom. The architecture can be upgraded with new technology, providing what Polycom considers greater long-term value and investment protection.

The Polycom OTX 300 is scheduled to begin shipping during the third quarter of this year.
