Projectiondesign this week unveiled a cooperative agreement with VDC Display Systems, which makes display solutions for military and commercial simulation and training applications, as well as a new LED-illuminated projection system for use in realistic night vision goggle stimulation.

Projectiondesign officials said VDC will join its reseller program and promote, sell, install, and support Projectiondesign projectors in the simulation and training market. The partnership coincides with the company’s preview of a new infrared-enabled LED projector that can simulate low-ambient light operations, making it well suited to mission training, air-traffic control, ship-bridge simulation, and any application where the trainee is wearing night vision goggles.

“Having the right partners in each market sector has always been a Projectiondesign priority, and the training and simulation industry is a prime example of this,” said Chris Axford, director of international sales and marketing at Projectiondesign, in a statement. “We’re convinced that VDC has the right industry knowledge and experience to significantly grow the deployment of high-performance projectors such as the new IR projector in such a critical market.”

Company officials said typically, LED projectors have red, green, and blue LED light sources. By adding a fourth LED that operates in the infrared waveband, Projectiondesign’s new projector can simultaneously project both visible and infrared images from a common display engine with completely independent control over both images.

“We’re extremely pleased to be including Projectiondesign’s new technology offerings in our product portfolio, allowing us to offer a complete one-stop shop for projector and support requirements,” said David Rushton, vice president of business development for VDC Display Systems, in a statement.
