Last week at InfoComm 2010, Samsung launched what it calls the world’s first eco-friendly large format information displays incorporating LED backlighting technology. The new EX series is currently available in 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch models, with the option of a built-in PC.

Better than conventional LCDs when it comes to electricity consumption, design, image quality, and efficiency, the EX series could change the landscape of the advertising display market, according to Samsung.

“The EX series will have an innovative impact on the large format information display market with their eco-friendly and highly efficient options, impressive image quality and sleek design,” said Jin-Hwan Kim, executive director of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Division, in a statement.

The EX series is Energy Star 5.0-certified. By incorporating LED technology, they use up to 40 percent less electricity than LCD displays and produce less carbon dioxide and fewer hazardous substances, according to the company. In addition, the option of a built-in PC eliminates the need to purchase an additional PC, resulting in higher efficiency and less maintenance cost.

The EX series is also very tin and light, making the displays easier to install and use. They are 35 to 40 percent lighter than other large information displays of the same size, Samsung says. The 46-inch model weighs about 33 pounds.

The EX series 1920×1080 full HD resolution, a high contrast ratio, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, which enables faster image changes without motion blur to deliver clearer advertising messages. Magicinfo-i, Samsung’s proprietary content management solution, allows signage users to control several displays by connecting them to a network via the built-in RJ-45 port. A smart scheduling function allows users to turn on and off the display, adjust the volume, and set input sources.

The Samsung EX series is available now.
