Samsung Rolls Out Slew of LED-Lit Commercial Screens
At InfoComm 2011, Samsung Electronics America introduced four new lines of commercial LCD displays.
At InfoComm 2011, Samsung Electronics America introduced four new lines of commercial LCD displays. The Samsung HE, ME, UE, and UD Series displays incorporate LED-backlight technology for better overall image quality and lower power consumption. They will be available through Samsung distributors and resellers in the third quarter, according to Samsun officials.
"Samsung is building on a category we created at InfoComm 2010 by increasing the number of LED/ LCD solutions for many commercial user scenarios," said Kevin Schroll, product manager of commercial displays at Samsung Enterprise Business Division, in a statement. "Organizations need display solutions which not only offer superior image quality but are also flexible enough to work in almost any environment. LED/LCDs work for everyone, from the small business owner to retail spaces and mission-critical applications."
The HE, ME, UE and UD Series all incorporate LED backlight technology rather than cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlighting, cutting energy consumption by 30 to 50 percent. With the ME and UE Series benefitting from a high 120Hz and 240Hz refresh rate, respectively, there is smoother scrolling text and reduced motion blur in digital signage messaging. With native contrast ratios of up to 5,000:1, the LED/LCD displays produce more realistic images, company officials said.
The displays feature ultra-thin bezels, while the ME, UE, and UD series also feature slim, 1.2-inch chassis, making them easier to install in more locations.
The HE Series (HE40A, HE46A) is designed for moderate-use commercial applications, such as lobbies or small business locations like medical offices, according to the company. Both the HE40A and HE46A feature a built-in TV tuner, 1080p resolution, and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. They also come with built-in 10W stereo speakers and MagicInfo Lite software for plug-and-play digital signage content playback through USB. Price tags will be $1,051 and $1,402, respectively.
The ME Series (ME40A, ME46A, and ME55A) is designed for the digital signage market, according to Samsung. It also has an integrated TV tuner, but also includes RS-232C and RJ-45 ports, as well as DisplayPort and HDMI connectivity. Other features are similar to the HE line. Pricing will range from $1,227 to $2,338, according to the company.
The UE Series (UE46A and UE55A) is for customers looking to deploy an affordable videowall solution, Samsung said. It combines 1080p resolution with 240Hz refresh rates and supports 3D video viewing via optional 3D glasses. The displays are bright, at 450 nits, and also feature DisplayPort and HDMI ports, MagicInfo Lite, and built in 10W stereo speakers. Street prices are expected to be $2,455 and $3,507, respectively.
Finally, the UD Series (UD55A) is designed for customers looking to deploy mission-critical videowalls that can run 24/7, according to the company. The 55-inch 1080p unit has a bezel width of just 5.5 millimeters from bezel to bezel, direct-lit backlight panels, and advanced cooling. Pricing has not yet been determined.
