Technomad announced it has added more power to its range of PowerChiton weatherproof amplifier modules. According to the company, the new PowerChiton4 is able to produce 1,600 watts for 8-ohm systems and 1,800 watts for 4-ohm systems, and offers more than three times the power of Technomad’s current highest-power model within the same compact, NEMA-enclosed package.

The PowerChiton’s IP66 protection classification confirms ingress protection for persons, such as electrical safety, and equipment, such as dust, dirt, and water. The latter makes PowerChiton amplifiers well-suited for outdoor installations. Its low-profile, modular design also gives systems designers and integrators the flexibility to place the amplifiers closer to the loudspeaker, including wall- and pole-mount systems, without little hassle, or to install the modules to the back of the loudspeaker, says the company.

“We developed the PowerChiton4 in response to requests to offer a weatherproof amplifier solution for high-power applications, especially those covering large areas,” said Rodger von Kries, vice president of Technomad, in a statement. “This could include anything from large stadiums to campus-wide public address and emergency announcement systems. The Ethernet/audio-over-IP-networking capabilities of the PowerChiton4 add benefits for large-area installations that are establishing zone control and tying multiple audio points to a centralized infrastructure.”

All four PowerChiton amplifiers, including the 130- and 250-watt modules, are available with three networking options: Ethernet/IP, RF, and twisted-pair. Their design employs a single passive radiator for amplifier cooling and removes moving parts to minimize failure points.

Other features include a broadcast-quality balanced line input for improved site-wide audio that works for both voice and musical output. A second input can be used for local audio or as a secondary audio source. An internal mixer balances, improves, and maintains audio levels out of the amplifier modules en route to loudspeakers.

The PowerChiton4 is scheduled to begin shipping in July.
