Yamaha Electronics Corp. introduced the YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector, the latest addition to its sound-bar series. With high-quality, True Cinema sound, the YSP-2200 offers Yamaha’s proprietary YSP front surround sound technology for an optimal home theater listening experience.

The design of the slimline 3D-compatible sound projector enables it to fit conveniently in front of a TV, eliminating the need for additional speakers, cabling and stands that can clutter home entertainment spaces. Measuring 3.5 inches, the YSP-2200 has height-adjustable feet to allow for use with virtually any flat-screen video display without blocking any of the picture. The YSP-2200 comes with a 100W subwoofer that can be positioned either vertically or horizontally, giving users an unobtrusive, space-efficient environment and adding extra bass reinforcement, company officials said.

The design allows the YSP-2200 to offer 7.1 surround sound without any extra speakers via the same Yamaha YSP technology that’s used in the company’s higher-end sound projectors (YSP-4100/5100). Included with the YSP-2200 is a sound bar that has 16 speaker beam drivers, each with its own digital amplifier, along with a bass-reflex subwoofer. Together they create an immersive multichannel surround sound experience by reflecting the detailed 7.1 beams of sounds off the walls and into the listener’s ears, according to Yahama officials.

“Most consumers want the benefits of 7.1 surround sound, but don’t want to compromise the look of their living room,” said Tom Sumner, president or Yamaha Electronics Corp., in a statement “Yamaha’s YSP-2200 technology allows for the enjoyment of surround sound without additional speakers, unsightly cables, and stands.”

Other features include a Music Enhancer function, which improves the sound of compressed sources such as MP3 files, and support for HDMI 1.4a (4 in/1 out), which enables the connection of multiple HDMI sources. The system also comes with IntelliBeam Automated System Calibration for optimizing sound performance.

The Yamaha YSP-2200 carries an MSRP of $999.
