Tech Showcase: Digital Signage Products

A variety of products targeted to the digital signage market, including video players, flat panels, projectors, screens, and content delivery systems.

This month, we showcase a variety of products targeted for the digital signage market, including a mix of video players, flatpanels, video projectors, projection screens, and content delivery systems. As the technology of “digital signage” becomes more and more affordable—digital signage provides a dynamic video pallet for advertising, promotion, sales, marketing, messaging, and eye-catching communications.

Bypassing the complex running of electrical lines through walls, the Altinex Muse HDMI+Power+RS-232+IR transmitter and receiver distribution system provides a convenient means to power a display with up to 150W of power and carry HDMI, RS-232, and IR control signals up to 300ft. (90 meters) over a single, low-voltage, unshielded Cat-6 cable. Muse consists of the MU400-111 transmitter and the MU500-112 receiver. The output of the MU400-111 transmitter is monitored for power consumption and when power is exceeded, the output is turned off to protect the system. Muse is designed to withstand direct shorts both on the low-and high-voltage side. The current consumption is monitored continually, and output is disabled if an overload or short is detected. The Altinex Muse HDMI+Power+RS-232+IR transmitter and receiver are fully compliant with HDMI and HDCP standards, and are ETL listed.

Vizio RS120-B3

Vizio’s 120in. Reference series RS120-B3 with Dolby Vision HDR is the ultimate in digital signage due to the combination of its extremely bright full-array LED backlight, ultra high-definition 4K-resolution and large, seamless screen size. The most important factor in digital signage is visibility. Achieving that type of visibility requires a big, bright image that usually comes from a clunky videowall, or an expensive LED-based Jumbotron-type display that cannot be viewed up close—the individual LEDs are simply too big. Thanks to the high dynamic range capability and high contrast of the full array LED backlight, the TV is capable of outputting 800 nits, or more than 2.5 times the brightness of a typical display, while still retaining excellent black levels. Both the high contrast and ultra HD 4K resolution of the panel allows the user to see it from a distance and still walk up close to it and resolve fine details. In addition, because of the large-screen size, viewers no longer have to suffer with the distracting screen frames that would otherwise be visible in a videowall system. Instead, the user can see one seamless image.

X2O recently introduced the X2O Join Connected Desktop, an application that lets users see the same, as well as new channels on their desktop, in addition to seeing them on digital displays and videowalls. This allows users to keep in touch with company and department news and receive realtime alerts—all from their desktop.
