2011 Innovative Product: Magenta Research Voyager Series Switcher

The world’s first all-format fiber-optic signal-distribution platform, it transmits and receives analog or digital video, plus audio and RS-232 signals over single-mode fiber to distances of 30km or multimode fiber up to 2km. Magenta’s mastery of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) helps give the platform its flexibility; Magenta’s Flex I/O technology uniquely allows each port on the switch’s eight-port I/O cards to be an input or an output and to swap roles seamlessly in the field. This year saw 160-port and 48-port matrix switchers. As we go to press, Magenta has just announced a new range of Voyager products including a Compact Format line, as well as a four-port transmitter to be unveiled at ISE next month.
