The Fiber Matrix 6400 modular fiber-optic matrix switcher from Extron Electronics allows for complete, end-to-end digital AV signal transmission and routing over fiber-optic cable. It is expandable in sizes from 8×8 up to 64×64 and supports up to 4.25Gbps digital switching. Equipped with all of the convenience features common to Extron matrix switchers, together with hot-swappable I/O boards; realtime system monitoring; and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies, the Fiber Matrix 6400 delivers highly reliable, enterprise-wide switching of fiber-optic AV and control signals for any mission-critical environment.

“The Fiber Matrix 6400 was specifically designed for facilities requiring a highly robust, dependable switching system using a fiber-optic infrastructure to distribute high-resolution video signals,” says Lee Dodson, vice president of marketing for Extron. “We’ve built specific features into this matrix switcher that expedite AV system integration and ensure uninterrupted, continuous 24/7 operations.”

The Fiber Matrix 6400 is fully compatible with the company’s FOX 500 series of fiber-optic digital transmitters and receivers, as well as the FOX HD-SDI. It accepts and routes high-resolution video signals including 1600×1200 computer video, DVI, and multi-rate SDI. The modular board design features eight board slots that can accept Fiber Matrix I/O boards in 850nm multimode and 1310nm single-mode versions.

A host of familiar, integrator-friendly matrix switcher features are available, including QuickSwitch Front Panel Controller (QS-FPC) with tri-color backlit buttons, I/O grouping, rooming, and memory presets. For optimum performance and reliability, a realtime monitoring system continuously provides self-diagnostics of the I/O boards, fiber links, power supplies, internal fans, and general switcher functions. Finally, the Fiber Matrix 6400 provides convenient user access through the front panel, and can be remotely configured and operated through the RS-232 serial control port, IP Link Ethernet control, and the optional MKP 3000 X-Y remote control panel.
