Over the past several years, InfoComm has developed a number of programs and resources to help its members create business opportunities with building professionals.
Last decade, the audiovisual industry was revolutionized when equipment could be networked over an IP network. Since that time, the role of AV in buildings has transformed from standalone equipment into complex systems that are integrated into the built environment at the time of construction or renovation.
InfoComm has created presentations that explain the audiovisual industry to architects, books that explain the AV design process to building professionals, a brochure that explains the role of AV and the value of the CTS credential to architects, and a website, www.ctsforav.com, aimed at building professionals. InfoComm has also conducted AV Lunch & Tours for architects all over the world and put together a green AV paper for building automation professionals.
In 2010, InfoComm is continuing to develop new programs to help members develop business opportunities in the building space.
First, InfoComm contracted with Acclaro Growth Partners, a research-based strategy consulting firm, to develop a report, Building AutomationOpportunities and Challenges for the Audiovisual Industry for audiovisual firms potentially interested in expanding into the field of building automation.
As the worlds of AV, security, information transport systems, telecommunications, IT, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing move closer together, more audiovisual companies are exploring working across these related disciplines. Building AutomationOpportunities and Challenges for the Audiovisual Industry addresses perceived opportunities and threats in the modern integrated communications environment.
The report helps AV businesses navigate complex issues including the opportunities and threats facing the AV industry in building automation, going green versus cost savings, the role of IT in the integrated communications movement, and more. Building AutomationOpportunities and Challenges for the Audiovisual Industry also explores the types of buildings that are a logical fit for AV companies and the value proposition of retrofitting existing structures.
The convergence of integrated communications technologies began several years ago, and it is expected to accelerate. It is logical that pro AV integrators and consultants who are experienced at working with building professionals, knowledgeable about control systems, and expert at integration are exploring expanding their role in the field of building automation.
