The Spanish Airport Authority, Aeropuertos Espanoles y Navegacion Aérea (AENA), has selected Opticomm Optiva transmission systems and an Optilinx optical switch for the new Madrid/Barajas Airport Terminal 4 Emergency Broadcasting and Signalling System.
The Optiva and Optilinx systems enable the realtime broadcast of audio signals throughout the extensive terminal at unsurpassed quality.
This complex new system, deployed and integrated by Spanish Opticomm partner Vitelsa, includes among other elements, 270 fiber-optic Optiva series transmitters and receivers, enclosed within Optiva frames with remote control and monitoring capabilities per the SNMP standard. This enables AENA to integrate the control of this new equipment distributed along the new Terminal 4 from its standard network monitoring system.
The AENA system also includes two Optilinx OLX-3000 optical switching matrices. These fiber-optic switching systems allow for different switching configurations between the Optiva systems (with configuration storage and recovery) and make instantaneous changes on the optical network possible, bringing unprecedented flexibility to the fiber-optic infrastructure.
A lead engineer at AENA indicates: “After having evaluated several alternatives, the Opticomm solution best meets the needs of the Madrid/Barajas budget, and because of its flexibility and control options, best fits the needs of the Madrid/Barajas airport, considering the topology of the installed communications network.”
Allon Caidar, Opticomm’s vice president of business development says, “We are grateful to AENA for the confidence they have shown us in selecting our systems for one of the most significant projects of its characteristics deployed in Europe this year. This project exemplifies the leadership of Opticomm in video and audio optical transport systems in Europe.”
