NSCA 10th Annual Fall Business Conference Celebrates Industry Leaders

NSCA honored the best and the brightest at the 10th Annual Fall Business Conference. On Oct. 21, 2007, four contracting companies received awards for their achievements in the industry.

“Fall Conference is a terrific venue to recognize leaders in our industry,” says Ray Bailey, president of Lone Star Communications and 2007 Fall Business Conference co-chairman. “These awards give others a chance to learn from best practices and success stories.”

IVCi LLC received the Growth Strategy Award for its adoption of video conferencing technology, collaborative services, internal growth, and its predicted expansion.

SPL Integrated Solutions took home the prize for Fiscal Responsibility. Last year, SPL—a nationwide integrator for audio, video, and collaborative communications—celebrated 15 consecutive years of growth and profitability.

For its training efforts and outreach, Southern Business Communications (SBC) won the Professional Development Award. SBC believes the keys to maintaining an educated workforce are to hire the right people, train staff effectively, provide employees with proper support, and focus and measure its business plan.

Because of its ability to forge partnerships with key manufacturers and vendors, BCD Low Voltage Systems was selected for the Strategic Advancement Award. The Phoenix-based company—specializing in low-voltage security and AV integration—expects sales to reach $3 million in 2007. For more about BCD’s accomplishments, check out the December issue of NSCA’s Building Connections newsletter.

NSCA Adds New Online Tool to Match Members with Projects

Your search is over. NSCA’s new Members on the Map online directory will help you find just the information you seek. Need an expert in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)? Want to hire a specialist in rack and rackmount systems? Searching for just the right Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) installer? Look no further. Now with a couple of clicks, you can locate members specializing in the market and technologies you need for your project.

“It’s a terrific way for industry professionals to promote their company and all the products and services they provide,” says Senior Director of Member Services Jodi Montgomery. “Anyone searching for your company will be linked back to your Web site for more information.”

Members are awarded projects frequently as a result of their Members on the Map directory listing.

Here’s how the tool works: NSCA corporate members update their company listing with all the markets they serve, such as corporate, houses of worship, education, and other markets. Members also list all the types of equipment they represent or manufacture within the following categories: acoustics and audio, ancillary, automation and control systems, audio/visual, communications, digital signage, IT/data networks, lighting/staging, security/life safety, services and software, telephony, and video.

Industry professionals, architects, engineers, facility managers, systems operators, and end-users can use Members on the Map to find a perfect match for a specific project. For example, imagine a church wants to install a new audio/visual system in the sanctuary. By clicking on audio/visual under Technologies, they can search by zip code and region to locate all the sub-specialists in the field. A school administrator may need to collect bids for a new theatrical lighting system. A quick check of Members on the Map will bring up numerous trained systems integrators who can perform the work.

Members on the Map is quick, informative, and free. To begin your search, please visit www.nsca.org/directory.

Member Saves $40,000 with NSCA

Tom Karr was thrilled when he got the news about his new insurance policy through NSCA SystemsPlus Insurance Solutions. The vice president at Audio Video One in Chicago had no idea his membership would result in a savings of $40,000 on his insurance premiums.

NSCA member companies, such as Karr’s, had been requesting insurance relief for quite some time. Last year, NSCA announced the launch of SystemsPlus Insurance Solutions to address this demand.

Karr is in the rental and staging business, and he needed the proper standard market insurance. Because one of his offices is in Florida, some companies wouldn’t even consider his business due to potential hurricane damage. Another issue Karr had was insuring people outside his company.

“In our business, if I run out of something, I need to get it from another vendor and they need coverage,” Karr says. “[Now] if I rent something from someone else, they’re covered.” Not only did Karr save money on his premiums, but he’ll actually receive more insurance coverage to boot.

Karr says the SystemsPlus coverage was comprehensive. “In a nutshell, it covers everything,” he says. “I don’t why anyone would use another insurance company.”

Industry Professionals Use Foundation Funding at Fall Business Conference

More than 40 percent of attendees at NSCA’s recent Fall Business Conference took advantage of funding available from the Foundation. The leadership and management programs from this event help shape the future of the commercial electronic systems industry.

NSCA Education Foundation President Tom Frericks says the Foundation was proud to provide financial support to help educate industry professionals.

“The Foundation makes it possible for systems integrators to attend educational events such as the Fall Business Conference, which helps them develop their businesses, their employees, and the industry,” Frericks says.

Financial support for industry professionals is available thanks to generous contributions from members of the industry. Additionally, several manufacturers donated prizes to the Foundation’s third annual Silent Auction at Fall Business Conference, which raised more than $11,000. Thanks to Atlas Sound, Bose Corporation, FSR, Grass Valley, Innovative Electronic Designs, Lutron, Music Supply Company, QSC Audio Products, Rauland-Borg and Shure for their prize donations in support of the Foundation’s initiatives.
