Associations Focus: InfoComm on FCC White-spaces Decision

To help promote the AV industry and raise awareness of the latest technology innovations, Crestron celebrated its Las Vegas Experience Center grand opening during AV Week. Crestron Las Vegas provides customer support and training for dealers and partners who serve the local residential and hospitality markets.
On Nov. 4, 2008, the FCC approved the use of the white spaces to deliver wireless broadband Internet and other services to consumer wireless devices. It is important to note that this ruling does not address the issue of wireless microphone operations in the 700MHz band. The FCC had proposed earlier that wireless microphone operations in the 700MHz band should cease in February 2009, but a final transition date has not been announced.
InfoComm will continue to advocate on behalf of manufacturers, dealers, and users of our wireless products as they adapt to changing operating conditions resulting from the gradual deployment of new wireless devices. INFOCOMM LAUNCHES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is a new committee that is responsible for finding and mentoring volunteers to serve on committees and on the next InfoComm election ballot. With the help of staff, the LDC will create and maintain an InfoComm volunteer-leaders database. This database will keep track of members’ past and current volunteer positions, their desire to serve in the future, professional and personal expertise, and their performance as volunteers.
From the InfoComm volunteer-leaders database and from recommendations of members, the LDC will make appointments and nominations; make suggestions to committee chairs, the board, and the president for their use in recruiting committee members; and select volunteers to attend the leadership forum. THREE CHEERS FOR THIRD ANNUAL AV WEEK
InfoComm members celebrated the third annual AV Week from coast to coast from Oct. 19 to 25, 2008.
Randy Pagnan, ISF, CTS, president of rp Visual Solutions, conducted tours of the Disneyland Resort Innoventions Dream Home in Anaheim, Calif. “The rear-projection and display technology on exhibit at the Dream Home exemplifies the value of AV now and into the future,” Pagnan says.
InfoComm also did its part to celebrate AV Week with a lunch and learn for 50 architects and facilities planners that was held at the new Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
Additionally, InfoComm organized a Green AV Summit in Atlanta, bringing together 20 members representing manufacturers, rental and staging companies, independent design consultants, and systems integrators.
