Registration is now open for NSCA’s popular technician training series, which encompasses the electronic systems technician curriculum developed by the leading commercial electronic systems educator.
Installers and technicians with two years to four years of experience can sign up to begin their online and hands-on experience when the next session begins on Sept. 14. Students will learn a variety of industry-specific skills, including interpreting electrical drawings and evaluating the performance of copper and optical fiber cable. Participants will also come away from the course with a better understanding of audiovisual and nurse-call systems to wireless communications and alarm systems.
The online classroom environment incorporates popular methods of learning and communicating. This allows students to interact and learn from peers working on a multitude of systems and applications. Registration fees start at $695 for NSCA members and $995 for nonmembers.

New NSCA Course Provides Practical Knowledge of Audio Systems
A new online seminar helps entry-level and experienced audio systems technicians gain years of experience and knowledge in just 16 hours. NSCA University’s Technical Fundamentals of Audio course, which is now available in a convenient online experience, provides instant technical knowledge for a variety of audio marketsincluding commercial, industrial, education, and government facilities.
Participants will earn eight Learning Units (LUs) within NSCA University’s College of Technical Knowledge and gain valuable information on topics such as decibels, Ohm’s law, series and parallel circuits as voltage and current dividers, subjective loudness and temporal masking, and sound distribution over time.
“NSCA understands that technicians and installers don’t always have time to participate in onsite training,” says Norah Hammond, NSCA senior director of professional development. “The Technical Fundamentals of Audio course provides a concise summary of techniques that can take years of self-training and experience to obtain otherwise. Plus, the online option allows for convenient training that fits your schedule and produces skilled employees for years to come.”
The instructor-led course brings together two of the industry’s most knowledgeable instructors on the fundamentals of audio systems. Larry Garter, NSCA’s master instructor, provides techniques for 10 great ideas in audio technology including math, measures, electrics, and hearing.
The 16-plus-hour experience is $299 for NSCA members and $369 for nonmembers. NSCA members can also apply their education credits for up to 25 percent of the price of the course. Upon registration, participants will have access to the instructor-led course for 45 calendar days.

NSCA Makes Certification Review Course More Convenient, Accessible
A review course to prepare participants for NSCA’s EST-L2 certification exam is now available in a convenient online format, in addition to the classroom-based option currently offered throughout the year. The four-part review helps installers and technicians in the industry build their professional competence and confidence.
Building on the foundation set forth in the ESPA Certified-EST training, the EST-L2 demonstrates that certificate holders have specialized knowledge and skills in the commercial electronic systems industry. Designed for individuals with at least two years to four years of industry experience, the EST-L2 Online Review is now available anywhere at any time.
Brett Philips, a technician at South Western Communications in Indiana, says the online course was very convenient.
“I had enough time to get my work done and work through the online materials,” he says. “Not only have I learned a lot of new things, but it has refreshed many of the technical aspects I do in the field, helping to make me a better technician as I move forward in my career.”
Led by Larry Garter, NSCA’s master instructor, the course is designed to review topics that participants have already studied and highlight key concepts they are expected to know as they progress through their career.
The review includes four modules: Project Startup, Rough-in Installation, Termination and Component Installation, and System Activation and Project Closeout. Based on eight hours of coursework, participants have 60 days to complete the online course. Registration is $209 for NSCA members and $299 for nonmembers. NSCA members can also apply their education credits to receive an additional discount of up to 25 percent off the price of the course.

Identifying Marketing Best Practices
NSCA’s A/E Toolkit, a web portal designed to help improve communication with architects and engineers, has been updated with information focused on leveraging best practices in marketing professional services.
Eight new white papers prepared by the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Foundation have been posted to the marketing sections of the web portal. The SMPS is an organization created to develop market research and learning for the architect, engineering, and construction industries. These new articles focus on using client-facing techniques to improve sales and to leverage new technology to win more work.
New market intelligence resources and information on publications have been updated in the Web Links and Industry News sections of the website.
“NSCA members can benefit from the market intelligence and research efforts spearheaded by the SMPS Foundation,” says Craig Park, FSMPS, Assoc.
