In June 2009, the AV industry was saddened by the passing of Michael Vergauwen, who served the AV industry and InfoComm tirelessly as an InfoComm officer, board member, and volunteer. As an InfoComm Foundation board member, Michael took pride in awarding $200,000 in scholarships.

InfoComm International reports that $125,000 in pledges and contributions have been made to the Michael Vergauwen Education Fund since it was created June 20, 2009, and the association has set a new goal of $200,000 for the fund.

“The industry’s support of this fund is heartening,” says Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., executive director of InfoComm International. “Thanks to our donors, Michael Vergauwen’s commitment to growing and improving the AV industry will live on through scholarships and other important industry-building activities.”

With the generous opening support of AVI Systems, The Stoebner Family, Da-Lite, and NEC, InfoComm established the Michael Vergauwen Education Fund to honor and continue Michael’s legacy of building a strong AV industry through post-secondary scholarships to students who plan to enter the AV industry.

More than 25 companies and individuals have pledged or contributed to the fund for a total of $125,000. These include: Advanced AV, AMX, Helene Anderson, AVI Systems, BP Marketing Group, Greg Bronson, Chief Manufacturing, Crestron, Da-Lite, John H. Fuchs and Lynette Fuchs, John R. and Marsha Fuchs, Barry Goldin, Grass Valley, Hai Vision, InfoComm International, Kayye Consulting, Judith and Randal Lemke, NEC, Sennheiser, Sharp, Shure, Sierra Video, The Stimson Group, Stoebner Family Fund, Jeff Stoebner, Joseph and Carol Stoebner, Visix, and Winsted.

Due to the continuing interest, and with the intent of ensuring ongoing scholarships for years to come through interest generated on the funds, InfoComm is asking members to push the fund to more than $200,000. Besides scholarships, the intent of the fund may be expanded to include curriculum development, community engagement, and promotion of AV careers.

To make a pledge, members can download a pledge form from www.infocomm.org.
