According to preliminary findings from CEDIA’s annual research report Size and Scope of the Residential Market, 61% of home technology professionals’ projects were in new homes and 35% were in existing homes. Regardless of what you’re seeing for your company – new construction or retrofit – one thing is clear. You have to have to be able to work with other trades, the builders, the remodelers, the interior designers. They are all powerful allies, and believe us – you want them on your side.

The key is to make a few key contacts that can connect you with the homeowners. Showing your value to architects, builders, and interior designers can seem like a tall order. Where do you start and how do you help these partners recognize what you can bring to the table?

CEDIA offers resources to help you assert your value to this audience through the registered outreach instructor (ROI) program.

CEDIA’s ROI program enables CEDIA members to present relevant and timely education to industry partners while also gaining leads for future business. Start offering continuing education opportunities to your local industry partners to learn about home technology while also earning credit. Currently CEDIA is an approved provider of continuing education for eight industry groups including the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers, and the National Association of Home Builders. CEDIA Registered Outreach Instructor (ROI) program provides 19 approved courses including hiding technology, lighting control, designing dedicated theaters, and integrating audio.

The ROI program helps establish your company as THE technology expert within your area, boosts profitability and referrals, and differentiates you from the competition. So how do you start? To become an ROI, you must be a CEDIA member and you must pass the “Train the Trainer” course.

The good news is CEDIA has made it even easier to take and pass the “Train the Trainer” course by bringing it to you on demand! CEDIA will come to your location if you take these three easy steps:

1. Assemble a minimum of eight individuals for the eight-hour course

2. Provide appropriate meeting space and necessary audio visual equipment

3. Make food and beverage arrangements

CEDIA does the rest and makes it easy for large member companies to host “Train the Trainer” education. Requests are on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability.

The support does not end there. After becoming an ROI, CEDIA provides advertising and marketing resources to help you get started. Once you have passed the Train the Trainer course your company will be listed on the CEDIA Finder’s Service as an ROI, so those industry partners who are looking for training can find you easily. The ROI course wear is always being updated for accuracy and to reflect the latest trends. CEDIA also offers an ROI refresher course and other events to help you make the most of this training.

Maybe you’ve tried reaching out to partners in the past and have been unsuccessful, or maybe industry partners represent a whole new niche for your marketing efforts. Either way the CEDIA ROI program provides you with tangible benefits to start relationships that can lead to dollar signs for your company. To learn more email [email protected].
