Founded by Senior Pastor Perry Noble in 2000, NewSpring Church of Anderson, S.C., has experienced tremendous growth. Following the completion of its main worship center in 2006, the church began to establish satellite campuses to accommodate all its attendees, which has reached nearly 30,000 each week across eight locations.

Pleased with the dV-DOSC loudspeaker system installed in its main sanctuary seven years ago, the church has commissioned L-Acoustics-certified provider LMG Systems Integration of Orlando, Fla., to design and install KARAi systems in its new locations, staring with Columbia and Greenwood campuses.

Columbia’s 80,000-square-foot building, which previously served as a Kmart, is a remodeled 1,500-seat sanctuary featuring a house sound system of seven KARAi flown per side, plus a single 12XTi per side for out-fill coverage. Six coaxial 8XTi enclosures are spread across the stage lip for front-fill, with five SB28 subs deployed for low-end punch. The entire system is driven by a combination of LA8 and LA4 amplified controllers.

The 1,200-seat, 90,000-square-foot former Walmart at the Greenwood campus uses a system featuring six KARAi and one 12XTi per side for out-fill coverage, five 8XTi front-fills, four SB28 subs, and a few less amplified controllers.

“The ceiling of our Greenwood worship center is less than 18ft. high, so we had very limited room for arrays, but KARAi fit the space nicely,” says NewSpring Church Technical Director Joel Yates. “Even with only six cabinets per side the system is capable of absolutely in-your-face rock volumes while still producing smooth, consistent coverage.”

Now, NewSpring and LMG Systems Integration are turning their attention to the church’s newest location, a former Best Buy store in Spartanburg.

PRODUCT AT WORK: L-Acoustics KARAi

With a design inspired by the K1 stadium system, L-Acoustics’ compact and lightweight KARAi delivers a considerable number of improvements over the previous generation of line sources: added LF resources for increased bandwidth and coherence, improved directivity control in the horizontal plane, vertical coverage capability, and an integrated rigging system.
