Onkyo TX-NR609, TX-NR509, TX-SR309

Onkyo has introduced a line of entry-level home theater receivers that include advanced networking capabilities. The 7.2-channel TX-NR609 and the 5.1-channel TX-NR509 are network-capable and have a front-panel USB port. The 5.1-channel TX-SR309 was also released, but does not feature network capability. The two network-capable receivers support streaming PC audio and are compatible with Windows 7 and DLNA. All models are compatible with Onkyo’s iPhone app. The front-panel USB port offers a connection for an iPod or iPhone, along with support for audio playback from USB mass-storage devices. Other features shared by these models include PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry, lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, an on-screen display for setting adjustment, and a new front panel design. The TX-NR609 also features six HDMI inputs, a port for Onkyo-branded peripheral devices, and many popular digital and analog AV jacks. The TX-NR509 has four HMDI inputs and the same networking and audio processing capabilities as the TX-NR609 but does not feature 4K video upscaling. The network-less TX-SR309 features three HDMI inputs and TI Burr-Brown audio DACs, along with Onkyo’s proprietary advanced music optimizer and gaming audio modes. All models will be available in early April. Price: $599 (TX-NR609), $399 (TX-NR509), $299 (TX-SR309)
