Projector Upgrade

Pro Sound & Lights, a systems integrator based in central Kentucky, works primarily with houses of worship that often have specific needs. When Tates Creek Christian Church’s existing projectors were beginning to lose their luster and brightness, the church turned to Pro Sound & Lights.
“I’ve been working with Tates Creek for about six or seven years now,” says Christopher Naughton of Pro Sound & Lights. “Their old projectors had lost a significant amount of brightness and after clarifying their new needs, it was clear that Hitachi projectors were the only option.”
Located in Lexington, Ky., Tates Creek’s list of requirements included a larger image size than the previous projectors (from the same distance), consistent brightness, aspect ratio versatility, and white projector unit color. At the end of the installation, the projectors were also networked together via an infrared sensor.
“As the installation was for a house of worship, white color was a non-negotiable item,” Naughton says.
Completed in mid-September, the installation includes two Hitachi CP-WX8255 3LCD projectors. The CP-WX8255 supports 4:3 aspect ratio, which was another requisite of Tates Creek.
“Tates Creek is in the process of upgrading their formats, so they needed 4:3 in the meantime and the option of 16:9 later down the road,” Naughton says.
Naughton’s job consists of walking the client through each step of the installation, from the initial planning phases all the way to the physical installation. Pro Sound & Lights also runs a small rental department for customers in need of extra pieces or spare equipment during repairs.
Since a single all-encompassing vantage point was unavailable, the projectors are cross-fired at two slanted walls in the main sanctuary of the church, hanging from a 15ft. drop from the ceiling. This resulted in the image size being increased by about 25 percent.

Hitachi CP-WX8255
Part of the Installation series, the Hitachi CP-WX8255 3LCD projector features a brightness of 5,500 ANSI lumens, WXGA (1280×800) resolution and supports 4:3 aspect ratio. It also features AMX Device Discovery and Crestron RoomView. There are two HDMI inputs, motorized focus, zoom and lens shift, and a 360-degree off-axis display.
