Crestron announces the addition of the QM-MD5x1 QuickMedia (QM) compatible AV switcher and digital audio processor to its MediaManager line. The QM-MD5x1 accepts and routes up to five video signals including composite, component, and S-video, as well as computer, stereo audio, and microphone inputs to a QM output. The single rack unit switcher transmits the QuickMedia signal via CresCAT cable (consisting of a CAT5e or CAT6 cable and a Cresnet control cable), processes stereo audio, and mixes two microphone channels. QM-MD5x1 is a versatile and powerful midpoint distribution switcher or front-end multimedia interface for a complete MediaManager AV presentation solution.

The QM-MD5x1 features five inputs: Four video inputs, four unbalanced stereo audio inputs, and one QuickMedia input. The four video inputs consist of two 3-BNC channels for composite, RGB, S-video or HDTV signals, and two DB15HD connectors for RGBHV or high-resolution computer signals up to 1600x1200 pixels. QuickMedia is Crestron’s innovative signal format that allows virtually all signals such as composite, component, S-video, stereo audio, microphone, and computer all to be transmitted simultaneously over a single CAT5e or CAT6 type cable. The QM-MD5x1 accepts and processes two microphone signals through the QM input.

The output of the QM-MD5x1 includes a single eight-wire RJ45 connector for the QM output carrying all the audio and video signals. An internal 2x1 mic mixer combines the processed mic signals prior to routing to the QM output. In addition to the QM output, the QM-MD5x1 provides independent stereo program and speech audio outputs. Each independent audio channel features adjustments for volume, bass and treble, mute control, 12-band parametric/graphic equalizer, and left and right balance. The speech output also provides a delay adjustment up to 40mS for loudspeaker alignment. The extensive precision audio control features of the QM-MD5x1 effectively eliminate the need for expensive outboard processors.

Routing capacity of the QM-MD5x1 is expandable by cascading to another QM Distribution switcher such as the MQ-MD8x8 or the QM-MD4x2. Crestron SystemBuilder and Digital Media Tools (DMT) software make programming and configuration quick and easy. The QM-MD5x1 may be controlled by Crestron keypads, touchpanels, or via front panel controls, which may be locked out for additional security.
