OWI has added an amplified surface mount loudspeaker package to its selection of self-amplified speakers. The package includes a 30-watt, self-amplified, two-speaker system, available for $199.

According to the company, the low price should make the high-quality speaker affordable for schools, hotels, houses of worship, businesses, and other organizations where equipment such as laptops, projectors, microphones, stereos, or paging systems require audio support.
The self-amplified two-way speaker uses a 6.5-inch woofer and 0.79-inch tweeter, and a matching passive 4-ohm speaker to produce 30 watts of sound, says the company. The self-amplified speaker drives the second speaker, removing the need for an external amplifier. Company officials say combining the amplifier with the speaker produces low source impedance, which creates maximum damping control. This result is high fidelity reproduction and response without an external amplifier.
The self-amplified speaker features an aluminum grille, high-impact polystyrene housing, and a mounting bracket.
The CE-approved system is short-circuit-protected and comes with a one-year warranty, says the company. The amplified speaker weighs 12 pounds, while the non-amplified speaker weighs 10 pounds. Both are currently available in white and will be available in black by mid 2010.
