Commercial Display Sales Rise

Analysts say the market confusion between commercial-grade and consumer-grade flat-panel displays sold through commercial AV channels continues.

Analysts say the market confusion between commercial-grade and consumer-grade flat-panel displays sold through commercial AV channels continues (see "One of These Things if Not Like the Others," July 2008). But according to Austin, Texas-based DisplaySearch, the sale of commercial-specific panels saw an uptick in the firm's most recent surveying. "Products principally classified as commercial displays saw a 50 percent-plus growth rate in September," says DisplaySearch vice president Chris Connery. "With consumer budgets getting tighter, more people are taking mass transit and looking for economic meals. This translates into increased projects for commercial flat-panel deployments in mass-transit locations and quick-service-restaurants."
