Announced at InfoComm 2010, Crestron Electronics’ DigitalMedia (DM) 8G technology has started showing up in new products. DigitalMedia 8G is reportedly able to transmit uncompressed digital signals, such as HDMI, at up to 8 Gbps over a single shielded twisted-pair Cat-5 wire or multimode fiber. Using Crestron’s DM 8G STP cable, signals can reach 330 feetor 1,000 feet with CresFiber. The DM 8G family includes STP and fiber input cards for DM switchers, STP (pictured) and fiber transmitters, receivers, and room controllers.
