3D Virtual Black™ Rear Screen Projection Fabric Introduced at InfoComm 2008

Da-Lite Screen Company revolutionizes 3D projection with the introduction of its new 3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ projection screen material designed exclusively for 3D rear screen applications. Specifically designed and dedicated as the first rear screen 3D projection fabric in the industry, 3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ features breakthrough polarization preserving properties engineered by Da-Lite Screen Company’s research chemists.

“Since the development of 3D polarizing filters in 1936 by Edwin H. Land of Polaroid, 3D films have been both in and out of vogue. One of the biggest challenges to quality 3D projection has been the ability of the projection screen to retain or “hold”? the polarization of the image coming from the stereoscopic digital projectors. The lack of retention or ability to “hold”? the polarization of the projected image, in the past, has produced what many in the industry refer to as stereoscopic cross talk or “ghosting,”? commented Tim Henson, Da-Lite’s Executive Vice President of Manufacturing. “3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ effectively eliminates stereoscopic cross talk or “ghosting”? by maintaining 99 percent polarization purity, an industry first for 3D projection.”?

When the projection screen extinction is infinite, the polarization preservation is perfect. The 3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ fabric has the industry’s highest extinction value. The result is a new dimension in 3D passive stereoscopic viewing. Other major benefits of 3D Virtual Black is its seamless 16-foot height and that it easily folds for transportation, making it perfect for traveling or rental applications.

Markets for the 3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ screen fabric include the movie and entertainment industry, oil and gas surveying applications, medical and pharmaceutical applications, robotic surgery, museums, industrial and architectural design and the electronic gaming industry.

Da-Lite’s revolutionary 3D Virtual Blackâ„¢ is being previewed at InfoComm 2008, June 18, 19 and 20 in a specially designed Da-Lite theater. Supporting the debut of 3D Virtual Black are Christie Digital Systems, Inc. and Lightspeed Design Inc.’s DepthQ Stereoscopic.
