Black Box Expands Multicolor Fiber Patch Cable Line to Include OM4

Black Box added OM4 fiber optic patch cable to its expansive line of multicolored fiber optic patch cable line to include OM4 50-micron cable.

Black Box added OM4 fiber optic patch cable to its expansive line of multicolored fiber optic patch cable line to include OM4 50-micron cable. The cable, IEEE 802.3ae compliant for 10-Gbps, provides an upgrade patch from 10-Gbps to 40-Gbps and beyond. It’s capable of transmitting data up to 500 meters at 10-Gbps. The cable can be used with either 850-nm VCSELs and LED laser light sources.

The OM4 cable joins Black Box’s line of OM1, OM2, OM3, and single-mode multicolored fiber patch cable. This line enables users to color-code fiber networks for different applications and departments. This is becoming more and more prevalent in data centers. For instance, red cables can indicate connections for secure switches.

The cables offer a variety of options, including:

• 2 jacket styles—PVC and plenum

• 10 connector combinations

• 12 colors—from white to violet

• 13 lengths—from 1 to 30 meters

These cables offer color options normally found only in custom cable, but with the convenience of standard part numbers. With more than 16,000 standard part numbers, Black Box offers the largest selection of colored fiber patch cable in the industry.

A data sheet on the Black Box Web site details all the cable options and standard part numbers.
