EV XLC & NetMax Sound Sweet with Sugarland

Electro-Voice XLC 127DVX compact line arrays are sounding sweet on the current tour by platinum-selling, CMA Award-winning country artists Sugarland.

The tour sound and lighting systems are from Dale Morris Leasing, who have had had great success deploying the world’s largest EV touring system—comprised of X-Line, XLC, P-Series remote control amps running IRIS-Net control and supervision software, and NetMax processing—on country superstar Kenny Chesney’s record-breaking tours, providing sound for sold-out shows at some of the largest venues in the U.S.

Part of a system design by Phil Scobee of Dale Morris Leasing, XLC enclosures upgraded with new DVX-series woofers serve as the main PA for the Sugarland tour, offering increased power handling and enhanced frequency response. The EV equipment list includes 32 XLC boxes, 20 XLC118 subs, and 24 super-compact XLD281 boxes for 270-degree side wraps. 12 additional XLC boxes serve as delays where necessary. P3000RL amps running IRIS-Net provide all the power; system control, distribution, and processing are further streamlined with EV’s NetMax N8000 digital matrix controller.

The tour kicked off in Louisville, at the Kentucky Exposition Center’s 19,000-seat Freedom Hall, where David “Hud”? Haney of Dale Morris Leasing was present to hear the rig in action:

“I was very pleased with how smooth and seamless the new XLC rig sounded,”? says Haney. “I’ve been at shows in that room probably 15-20 times during my 30 years of touring, and this was the best I’ve ever heard it sound. It’s a tough space, with a low ceiling and a long throw—around 330-feet from stage. I was blown away by the XLC’s coverage and intelligibility.”?

“Phil Scobee is one of the smartest audio engineers I’ve ever had the privilege to work with, and he did a fabulous job putting this system together,”? Haney adds. “The EV team also did an excellent job assisting with the tour preparations, and we had hands-on support from EV’s Stu Schatz and Paul Carelli, who were there at the first show to hear the rig and help out. Anybody can buy the products; it’s the people standing behind them makes the real difference. In this case, it all adds up to the most amazing-sounding compact line array out there!”?
