Meyer Sound Features New Self-Powered UPQ-1P Wide Coverage Loudspeaker at InfoComm 2008

At InfoComm in Las Vegas, Meyer Sound (booth C3649) will present a variety of the latest audio technology to sound professionals, including its newest product, the self-powered UPQ-1P wide coverage loudspeaker, which begins shipping in June. With its exceptional power-to-size ratio and pristine sound quality, the new Meyer Sound loudspeaker is ideally suited for permanent installations including theatres, nightclubs and corporate AV applications, as well as portable event production applications.

The latest addition to the company’s famed UltraSeriesâ„¢ of loudspeaker products, UPQ-1P demonstrates the same consistent and smooth sonic signature of Meyer Sound products found in an impressive list of Broadway productions as well as performance venue and nightclub installations. The self-powered loudspeaker houses 1,275 watts of total amplifier power, carries a peak power output of 136 dB SPL with low distortion while offering flexible rigging options.

“Meyer Sound products have been widely used in theaters, churches and live venues. Now our customers are demanding smaller and lighter loudspeakers with high-quality performance across the frequency range,”? says John Meyer, CEO and Co-founder of Meyer Sound. “UPQ-1P is the answer to their request, and with the same coherent phase response that people have come to expect from Meyer Sound products.”?

In a patented trapezoidal enclosure, UPQ-1P weighs in at 105 pounds (47.63 kg) and measures 19 inches x 28 inches x 18 inches (482.60 mm x 711.20 mm x 457.20 mm). The high-performance loudspeaker is distinguished by its 80-degree by 50-degree constant Q horn, which provides exceptionally uniform response throughout the wide coverage area and gentle high-frequency rolloff.

Designed and manufactured by Meyer Sound at its Berkeley, Calif. headquarters, UPQ-1P’s drivers meet stringent performance specifications and rigorous quality controls. Its high-frequency section employs a four-inch diaphragm compression driver and a 15-inch neodymium magnet cone driver provides low-frequency content. For additional sub bass power, Meyer Sound 600-HP and 700-HP subwoofers are fitting complements.

As a self-powered Meyer Sound loudspeaker, the UPQ-1P carries integral amplification, complex crossover, driver protection, and frequency and phase correction circuitry onboard. This ensures a flat acoustical amplitude and phase response across its wide operating range of 55 Hz to 18 kHz.

UPQ-1P features versatile rigging end plates incorporating threaded M10 attachment points for basic eyebolt rigging, and Meyer Sound’s easy-to-use QuickFlyA® rigging options include the MPA-UPQ pick-up and array plate and MYA-UPQ mounting yoke. Other options include Meyer Sound weather protection, custom cabinets without handles, and custom color finishes for specific cosmetic requirements.
