Parsons Audio Mixing Music On NUAGE

BUENA PARK, Calif.–Parsons Audio (Wellesley, MA) recently took delivery of the new Yamaha and Steinberg NUAGE Advanced Production DAW System for use not only for customer demonstration purposes, but also in their own studio.

“Parsons Audio has always represented products on the cutting edge of recording and production technology. After seeing the NUAGE rollout at Yamaha, I was sold. My partners thought NUAGE would be a perfect addition to our product line, and I thought it would a great tool for my mixing projects, states Rob Pemberton, VP Technical Service and Design, Parsons Audio. As a long-time mix engineer and Nuendo user, I felt well-positioned to evangelize the system to our clients.”

Pemberton says he loves his NUAGE with Nuendo system. “NUAGE is so good, it has become an integral part of my mixing, and improved my workflow more than any other single piece of equipment. Because I’m a music mixer, sound quality is of the utmost importance, and the reason I started using Nuendo many years ago. The updates and improvements have kept me with the platform ever since. No other DAW can match Nuendo for sound quality and feature set.”

Having a bit of a workflow problem when he moved from an analog mixing desk to mixing in the box, Pemberton said engineers who are able to mix so easily with just a mouse and keyboard have impressed him. For him, however, mixing with a mouse was incredibly difficult and slow. “Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with nearly every DAW and control surface, and I can say with confidence that the NUAGE/Nuendo combination is by far the most tightly integrated software and work surface combination I’ve used. I have always liked the Nuendo mixer with dynamics and a very nice EQ on every channel. Those features controlled with NUAGE, brings back the speed and fun of mixing on an analog desk for me. I use the keyboard and mouse to get the system started, label tracks, close the keyboard tray, push the mouse away, and mix. I never have to reach for the mouse and get into the creative flow very quickly.”

The Parsons Audio system is made up of one NUAGE Master, one small work surface and two NUAGE faders mounted in a Sound Construction desk. “I also recently started using the NUAGE A8D8 and Dante Accelerator card to handle my control room I/O, Pemberton adds. Our next upgrade will be to replace the analog patch bays used for outboard gear with Nuendo I/O, and then all of the outboard will be wired directly to the NUAGE I/O with each piece of gear accessed as an external insert in Nuendo.
