Beyond HDMI: HDBaseT for Commercial AV

Beyond HDMI: HDBaseT for Commercial AV

Oct 8, 2012 10:40 AM

The influence of everyday connectivity and residential standards affects commercial AV both in terms of expectations and technology. HDMI was a step towards offering audio, video, and control in one cable, and recently adding Ethernet sharing, but it has it’s flaw that make it difficult to implement in the commercial realm. A new technology standard has emerged, that offers the promise of making connecting our equipment much easier, and systems design simpler, allowing closer interconnection of devices. This new standard, HDBaseT, was developed as a consumer electronic (CE) connectivity technology optimized for whole-home and commercial multimedia distribution. HDBaseT can connect all the devices in a system, converging uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single category cable.
