WATCH: iPhone 15 Pro Max Teardown

Added interior accessibility isn't enough to make up for the nightmare that is Apple's parts-pairing "feature."

In addition to retroactively lowering Apple’s repairability score for the iPhone 14, iFixit has posted their review for the hot-off-the-presses iPhone 15 Pro Max. As we previously reported, Apple had been recently lauded for changing their phone builds with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Pro, making the internal components of the devices easier to access. This point remains true, with iFixit still praising the company for implementing the change, saying, “This is a win for consumers as back glass repairs have been outrageously expensive on the high-end models until now, costing as much as $550.”

Unfortunately, other features of the device were not reviewed so positively. From a titanium frame that iFixit deems to be too easily scratched, to the dreaded parts pairing debacle that is also present in the iPhone 14 model, to only having perceived minor changes from the iPhone 15 Pro, the company awards the iPhone 15 Pro Max a rather low score. The repair gurus sum up their findings: “This phone won’t accept salvaged parts, it complicates at-home repair, and it won’t be any fun for your local repair tech.”
