
The Best of Show Awards at the NAB Show 2025 were judged from among submitted products with a Pro AV viewpoint.
Sound Devices Astral A20-HH
The judges’ top pick is this wireless handheld supported by Sound Devices’ SpectraBand receiver with its worldwide frequency band compatibility. For installed applications looking for more rider-friendly gear, judges liked the interchangeable Shure- and Sennheiser-compatible capsule threads, and the optional touch control rings. They also liked the ability to change transmitter settings remotely from the receiver through Sound Devices’ 2.4GHz remote two-way control protocol, NexLink, which delivers command confirmation. SpectraBand claims a very broad tuning range of 470 to 1525 MHz. The AutoAssign feature automatically selects and assigns the cleanest available frequencies; a GainForward architecture allows users to set the gain at the receiver instead of the transmitter. The full dynamic range of the microphone is sent over the digital RF link, which is great for any situation where RF fluctuates. The adaptable capsule thread supports the provided CD1 Cardioid Dynamic capsule or third-party capsule of choice. Optional interchangeable touch control rings in different configurations support a range of programmable features including the newly announced ability to communicate directly with a DiGiCo console.
BirdDog MAKI Live
The MAKI Live 4K live-streaming camera is a unique POV streaming camera with versatile connectivity options including USB-C, Wi-Fi, NDI, and SRT. The six-hour battery life for untethered use and innovative AI Gesture Control are huge value adds even before you consider MAKI Live Studio’s ability to create a three-camera multi-angle live streaming experience. Judges felt BirdDog has another winner on their hands. The camera was designed in a compact wireless form with built-in optical zoom and connectivity to support platforms like Zoom, Teams, and OBS, and YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook distribution without additional encoders. Halo Tally and microphone noise cancellation are among the features. MAKI Live Studio provides a three-camera bundle, enabling multi-angle live streaming without the need for a switcher.
Clear-Com FreeSpeak Icon
This latest addition to the iconic FreeSpeak line is a great beltpack for integrators to get their hands on, especially considering the improved display, programable keys, and build quality that judges called second to none. Bluetooth, Dante, and MADI support give integrators a variety of configuration and customization options to meet their project needs. While other manufacturers have emulated the FreeSpeak product lines, judges still rank FreeSpeak as the standard to beat in professional intercom connectivity. The FreeSpeak Icon beltpack combines the RF capabilities of the 1.9 GHz (DECT) frequency with innovations including nine configurable buttons, four individual channel volume controls, and support for Bluetooth 5.3. The configurable buttons include eight dedicated channel buttons and a reply key to virtually emulate a traditional intercom panel. Four dedicated channel volume controls and a main volume control allow users to fine-tune audio levels for each channel. Optimized for compatibility with Clear-Com’s award-winning Arcadia Central Station and Eclipse HX digital matrix, the FreeSpeak Icon beltpack integrates with existing systems. Judges also liked its shorter height and high-brightness color display and could see it providing a high comfort level, scalability, and toughness for worship and corporate.
Mavis Camera 
This ingenious iPhone application was a great find on the Grass Valley booth. It brings advanced camera control, audio management, monitoring tools, and camera-to-cloud workflow with direct connection to Adobe Frame.io. as well as live streaming to social media. Fully endorsed by Adobe, Mavis Camera can start uploading to Frame.io while the camera is still shooting. Whether used with Frame.i.o. or with a range of pro platforms via the Mavis Cloud Hub platform, the app makes familiar professional cloud workflows available to the iPhone. For in-camera control, users can control recording formats, frame rates, color balance, and focus. Monitoring tools include focus peaking, false color, zebras, waveform, vectorscope, and more. Selected controls can be quickly assigned to the iPhone’s function button; on-screen controls include unique thumb rails (curved tracks that follow the natural motion of the user’s thumb), and a camera control wheel for exposure, focus, and white balance. These controls can be configured for right or left-handed use, consistent with Apple’s preference for single-handed apps. Landscape and portrait modes are supported. The app comes with comprehensive audio mixing and management with two built-in channels and access to up to eight audio channels via a USB audio interface (think Scarlett), or a microphone with a USB output. Accurate metering makes it easy to set the ideal level and both mixed audio and source stems can be recorded at the same time.


Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro

This $1,500 10G live media player and master recorder has a built-in 7-inch LCD touchscreen for monitoring and supports 12G-SDI and HDMI for recording to Apple ProRes, DNx, H.264, and H.265 files in all video standards up to 2160p. A standout feature for judges was that HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro is also a network storage device, with 10G Ethernet and internal M.2 media. It’s a lot of gear in one device, especially for users who need familiar tools of high-quality production like LUTs, or those who need broadcast scopes, focus assist, and RGB exposure histograms. A heads-up display is included that overlays timecode, media status, and audio meters. Because it’s designed to record directly to network storage. customers don’t need media cards; media is available as folders via a browser (there is space for M.2 flash storage cards). Multiple users can access media simultaneously to edit, color, etc. Users can also transfer files via HTTP/S web interface or an FTP client. For broadcast automation control, HyperDeck uses the Ethernet connection and a text-based protocol, which customers can test with a Telnet client. A REST protocol is also supported for custom automation. This makes it a fully self-contained broadcast server for ingest, media management, and playout, so ideal for local government broadcasts, budget-conscious worship broadcasts, and higher ed settings where students can gain exposure to industrystandard broadcast, production, and cloud workflows in an affordable platform.
Allen & Heath Avantis Solo 
Avantis Solo might be only 22” wide but it doesn’t sacrifice the capabilities of the bigger console supporting 62 inputs and 42 mix outputs. Even with its slim form factor, the system runs a 96kHz engine with sub 1ms latency, perfect for challenging environments integrators face on a daily basis. Allen & Heath have thrived with their digital consoles and the Avantis line is a smooth operator with its intuitive layout and GUI design. Two I/O expansion slots plus a versatile builtin SLink port give Solo ample connection capabilities–both inside and outside the Allen & Heath ecosystem. Squeeze it into your tightest mixing space.
Vizrt Viz Connect Audio
Viz Connect Audio provides contractors with a very sleek and userfriendly way to convert analog audio to NDI in live production workflows. The single rack unit device also provides XLR and 1/4” outputs for in-room monitoring. The front panel control with color LCD and web GUI provides multiple layers of monitoring signal levels. Judges found it to be a very well-thought-out system that minimizes the need for multiple devices, cleaning up control rooms and portable rigs. Designed to integrate with NDI networks and TriCaster systems, Viz Connect Audio eliminates common live audio challenges that have persisted for years. Eight analog inputs support a range of audio devices and NDI and SDI connectivity. It also brings four analog outputs via XLR. An integrated NDI Bridge allows the tool to deliver audio signals from a nearby server room or across a global network. Monitoring capabilities allow operators to track both NDI sources and physical connections via front panel or web UI. A Precision Control feature enables teams to manage audio settings; for example, they can activate or deactivate phantom power for microphone sources, manage NDI grouping to streamline audio routing and network control, and monitor individual sources using the Solo feature.
QuickLink StudioPro-NDI 
Judges called this one of the easiest mobile studios to deploy on the market today. Integrators and end users will appreciate the impressively broad capabilities of the system without being bogged down with excessive configuration. Contractors will appreciate how the StudioPro allows them to use existing SDI signals while also incorporating NDI and 2110 workflows without the need for multiple pieces of outboard gear. Joining existing 12G-SDI and ST 2110 models, StudioPro-NDI is new to the product line, providing NDI, RTMP, UDP, SRT, and RIST capabilities. With a mere oneframe delay, QuickLink StudioPro ensures sync between stage speakers and large projected screens or video walls for live presentations and other Pro AV applications. StudioPro functions similarly to a video-based Microsoft PowerPoint to simplify all kinds of production applications. Built-in QuickLink StudioEdge technology integrates with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and StudioCall, as well as other camera feeds, audio sources, images, videos, and graphics; it supports simultaneous multi-aspect ratio output. It also supports ASIO audio devices over IP with AI noise reduction, echo cancellation, and studio audio features powered by NVIDIA.
IHSE Draco XStreme KVM extenders
Draco XStreme KVM extenders are class-leading KVM solutions for contractors to deploy confidently because they are efficient on networks thanks to the JPEG XS video codec. IHSE promises integrators futureproof options since the Draco XStreme product supports 8K with proprietary and IP-based transmission codecs. This newest series of KVM extenders is designed around a completely new hardware platform. The Draco XStreme will be offered in either DisplayPort or HDMI models that can run full 4K60 over a 1G bandwidth network system. In addition to the video/audio stream, IHSE, in partnership with Fraunhofer II, developed an advanced version of JPEG-XS that can now transmit keyboard and mouse commands integrated into the full bi-directional transmission stream. With the embedded JPEG-XS technology it is now possible to create a hybrid series that supports the company’s traditional Enterprise or Flex Series of KVM Matrix systems or integrate them into a typical Ethernet-based switching system.
Glensound PBS Parliamentary Broadcast System 
PBS Parliamentary Broadcast System is a masterclass for audio mixing in complex spaces requiring voice lift. The ability to dial in delay times and zoning during configuration allows for a very natural experience that can take advantage of automated mixing when appropriate. Dante simplifies the installation; features like voting and security card lockout meet the needs of the most demanding facilities for contractors. The product is based on more than three decades of experience designing systems for large debating chambers. The system brings together 20 hardware units and software control and management; it’s designed for large-scale debating rooms, automating many of the parliamentary processes and management. It has a lot of options for connectivity, control, and access at the interface boxes and desktop panels. Separate multi-channel loudspeaker amplifiers are available for all chamberbased speakers. During configuration, exact X/Y measurements are taken of every microphone and speaker to calculate the delay times. During use, this allows delay to change dynamically for every individual loudspeaker as individual mics are identified as active. A customdesigned frequency shifter allows greater mic gain levels before feedback. A separate software module allows interfacing with outside sources, such as Zoom or PTZ cameras.
AVer TR535N
Judges think that this dual-camera system is one of the most user-friendly AI-assisted PTZ cameras available. With quad-tracking modes, integrators can quickly and easily train their clients on how automated shot framing can reduce the workload for system operators in multiple environments. The TR535N features a dual-lens design, combining a wide-angle lens and a 4K PTZ. The wide-angle lens covers a larger area and minimizes blind spots, while the PTZ brings accurate zoom and focus. The dualcamera design allows for flexible installation options, including wall and ceiling mounts. NDI High Bandwidth integration is supported. AI-driven tracking modes allow full-body or half-body tracking, switching between Presenter and Zone modes, and optimizing video capture and zoning across multiple displays. Shield Zone functionality avoids tracking in selected busy areas, and the camera can manually track an additional presenter via remote control or Web UI.
Hollyland Technology Cosmo C2 
Judges felt this transmission system brings “extreme value” to wireless 1080p distribution of HDMI and SDI inputs in a market where similar products are significantly more expensive. The ability to buy single and dual transmitter packs is a nice touch and allows users to build out their production rigs without breaking the bank. Key features include a 3000-foot line-of-sight transmission range and a 33ms latency. Hollyland’s self-developed HEVO 2.0 technology ensures the Cosmo C2 can adapt to the changing wireless environment. It automatically switches to a cleaner channel and claims an improvement in transmission range by up to 186% and reduced latency by 18% when compared to previous models. Cosmo C2 handles both HDMI and SDI and supports conversion and loop-out capabilities. It supports NDI, UVC, and RTMP streaming protocols, making it easy to connect with YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. A frame rate compensation algorithm converts inputs such as 24/25/30p to 60p. Multiple power options include DC, NP-F, and V-mount batteries.
FOR-A MixBoard
FOR-A MixBoard is a fully software-based solution for producing content with unlimited layers; judges called it a powerful entry to the market for integrators. The basic 8×2 and advanced 16×4 workflows allow integrators to specify systems at more appropriate price points without sacrificing quality or requiring users to learn a new GUI. The software switcher allows users to create compositions and transitions with just a few clicks, something that would typically require extensive programming on traditional hardware switchers. Input types can be mixed and matched among SDI, NDI, media, live streams, and more. A new Media Engine supports playout of video clips, stills, and playlists, while the Compositor supports layouts and transitions. The MixCompositor enhances source management. A built-in multi-viewer composition tool allows operators to create custom layouts for monitoring multiple sources simultaneously. The built-in SoundFlex audio mixing feature supports up to eight audio input tracks, which can be independently mapped and mixed on four L+R mixed main tracks. Each one of up to four MixBoard independent output channels can be assigned with one or more of the four mixed main tracks. An intuitive SoundFlex Controller window can be optionally used for mixing during live productions. It’s a lot of breadth for any switcher, particularly for an all-software switcher.
Absen Saturn-C Series 
Judges found this new series to be a stunning option for integrators looking to create wow factor using flexible dvLED panels. An extremely adaptable frame is perfect for integrated immersive environments but also unique rental and staging designs. The ability to use 1.9mm pitch hardware allows for short viewing distances and an up-close experience where appropriate. An innovative curve control system features a precision gear transmission mechanism. With a simple ring rotation, a user can adjust the panel curvature from -30° convex to +30° concave, offering 13 adjustable angles at 2.5-degrees per step. This one-person operation simplifies setup. The series is available in 1.9mm and 2.6mm pixel pitches, a 7680Hz refresh rate, 1500-nit brightness, and an 8000:1 contrast ratio. The C Series is compatible with Absen’s standard Saturn Series panels, including both small and long panel formats. The panels can be configured into various shapes, including cylinders with just 12 panels or 90-degree arcs using only three columns of SA-C panels. With an exchangeable power box shared with the standard Saturn Series, and front and rear serviceability of modules, power supply units, and internal components, maintenance is simplified.
Sony HXR-NX800 & PXW-Z200
The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 camcorders have very strong builds when it comes to the chassis and specifications side of the equation. Sony’s integration of AI subject recognition is a huge value add, and support for 4K 60p/120p recording and color matching with other Sony models was appreciated by the judges. These two stacked 1” sensor camcorders are great for applications where Sony’s approach to all-inclusive, quick setup design for recording and streaming is a fit. Sony has packed in assists and usability, with recording formats including XAVC HS, XAVC S, XAVC SI, and XAVC HS Proxy and proxy recording for operating multiple cameras. The PXW-Z200 will also support XAVC (MXF) recording through a future firmware update. Connecting the cameras to a network enables live streaming of recorded footage to streaming services and video sites via RTMP/RTMPS or SRT. Versatile file transfer options include HEVC (H.265) and AVC (H.264) codecs, automatic upload to the cloud or an FTP server, and proxy chunk. Both come with Sony’s G Lens with a 20x optical power zoom that covers 24mm wide-angle to 480mm telephoto and a maximum aperture of F2.8-F4.5. The models can do 30x (4K) and 40x (HD) zoom using Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology. And the camcorders look great. An integrator can specify them anywhere you need a premium build combined with ease of use.
