- Microsoft is discontinuing the HoloLens 2
Microsoft has unceremoniously axed the HoloLens 2, the company’s enterprise-focused AR device. First reported by UploadVR, Microsoft has been communicating to its partners that those interested in the device should purchase one now, as no replacement is currently planned. The company has stated that it will continue to supply the device with “updates to address critical security issues and software regressions” through 2027, whereas all support for the HoloLens 2 will cease in 2028. Additionally, all support for the first-generation HoloLens will end December 10, 2024.
- Samsung to cease LED production
Samsung has announced it is restructuring its semiconductor business, which will involve ending production of its own LEDs. The company says it will end production of LED chips for lighting in the beginning of 2026.
- Acuity Announces Agreement to Acquire QSC, LLC
Acuity Brands has reached a definitive agreement to acquire QSC, for a purchase price of $1.215 billion, or $1.1 billion net of approximately $100 million in present value of expected tax benefits.
- Disney opens up model homes
Disney has opened up its first model homes to the media, showcasing the models belonging to the Oasis, Agrarian and Aspiron collections. Located in Rancho Mirage, these homes are to be part of Disney’s first residential community.
- Pro-Ject unveils ultra-luxury $15,000 turntable
Hi-fi brand Pro-Ject has unveiled its Signature 12.2 Flagship Turntable. The 12.2 caps out the new ultra-luxury Signature line at $15,000, featuring hand-mounting and polishing of all 100+ CNC machined parts.
