In the more than 100 years that Sweetwater Baptist Church in Thomson, Ga., has been chartered, it has done much in its area to help further the gospel, including planting new churches.

Recently, the church voted to refinish its sanctuary, expanding the vestibule area, adding a new steeple and a new ceiling, as well as replacing carpet to accommodate the addition of a small production lighting system, dual video screens, projectors, and a new audio system.

dB Audio & Video worked through the general contractor, Custom Church Interiors, of Ridgeland, Miss., to design and install Sweetwater’s audio system. The design that was chosen fits nicely into the traditional-looking worship space, while providing contemporary sound reproduction.

The main loudspeaker is a Danley SH100B, which covers the entire floor seating area with clarity and also provides plenty of low-end frequency. The balcony delay speaker and the choir foldback speaker are both Renkus-Heinz models, which also blend with the aesthetics of the room. A combination of QSC and Crown power amps were used for speaker power and stage monitor jacks. The new mixer is a Yamaha MG series with 24 microphone inputs and four stereo inputs. All mixing and amplification is controlled in the AV booth in the balcony.

The room tends to be on the “live” side, but the great pattern control of the SH100B eliminates unnecessary energy coming from the speaker system.

The audio system will give the congregation ample sound and flexibility for growth for many years to come.
