The RTcom extender was able to show a signal at a distance of 425ft. using Cat-6 cable. This was the fourth longest distance achieved out of all the extenders tested. The distance of 400ft. using Cat-5 cable was impressive as well and that resulted in the third longest distance tested. The overall size was extremely small and it used Phoenix connectors for the RS-232 connections. The labeling on the case was sparse, and it was interesting because nowhere on the case was an indication of the manufacturer or model number. When we were testing it was hard to remember which box it came from because nothing on the case indicated who made it. There were a few highly useful features for troubleshooting during installation. A light turned on when powered and linked. One of the interesting features was text messages that appeared on the display connected to the receiver. There was text on screen saying “WAIT LINK UP” when waiting for a link but powered. This indicated that the unit had power but the connection link between the units had not been established. Overall this unit was priced right at the average of all units tested but the performance was near the top.
