Echo360 Launches Next-generation Lecture Capture Platform

Echo360 unveiled the new Echo360System for campus-wide lecture capture. The Echo360System results from Anystream Apreso’s acquisition of Lectopia, a pioneer in the lecture capture market. The organizations’ combined technologies create the most advanced system for simplifying the campus-wide scheduling, capture, management and publishing of rich-media lectures and podcasts for on-demand student replay.
Institutions using the Echo360System, which is currently in beta at 25 universities, give it high marks for ease of use and scalability. The platform features a second-generation management server with web-based scheduling, creating a centralized control center for lecture capture operations across multiple classrooms, buildings, and campuses.
“We’ve captured more than 300,000 minutes of classroom-based content in 30-plus classrooms and have firsthand experience with the challenges of rolling out lecture capture across a university,” says John DeAngelo, associate dean for information technology at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. “The Echo360System makes campus-wide lecture capture a reality. With this platform, we deliver on-demand lectures effortlessly.”
Also included in the beta is the much-anticipated Echo360System capture appliance, the first non-PC device designed specifically for the needs of fixed classroom deployments. Along with its software capture capabilities, the Echo360System provides colleges and universities with maximum flexibility to capture lectures in fixed classroom and mobile environments, including faculty laptops.
Differing learning styles and the evolving student demographic are transforming the traditional classroom-centered delivery model. “Full-time, part-time, distance, ESL and lifelong learners all describe today’s student. These students require access to classroom content around-the-clock,” explains Mark Jones, senior vice president and general manager of Echo360. “On-demand lecture review is a must have learning tool, which Echo360 enables institutions of all shapes and sizes to deliver reliably and cost-effectively.”
The Echo360System will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2008.
