HaiVision Systems of Montreal, Canada announced the introduction of all-digital input and output options for the hai1000 multi-stream H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) high performance encoder/decoder system. The hai1000 is the premier codec for telepresence, medical communication, and distance-education applications enabling audio and video from multiple cameras and displays to be transmitted over the Internet. Systems integrators can create highly compelling communications systems based on this technology.

The new technology available for the hai1000 platform includes a highly tuned all-digital pipeline based on H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) compression technology. The system output supports high definition 720p at 60fps. For standard-definition network video streams, HaiVision has incorporated extremely high-quality image processing technology based on ASIC technology from Gennum Corporation. This technology scales standard-definition source video to high-definition, and within this process, applies very high-quality filtering to ensure perfectly detailed high-definition presentation.

The two primary benefits for HaiVision’s clients are a much higher-quality presentation of source video on display technology such as plasma or LCD monitors and a consistent image presentation across a number of different displays. The new option boards for the hai1000 system include an SDI input module supporting embedded AES/EBU or separate analog audio, a similar SDI output module, and an HDMI video output module with both digital and analog audio support.
