Magenta Research, a leading signal distribution and switching systems manufacturer, has been awarded a contract to provide a 64-input by 128-output high-resolution video switch, plus associated long-distance video signal extension systems, for the new Mt. Airy Resort & Casino in Paradise Township, Pa.

Magenta’s Mondo Matrix was chosen for the role of providing total flexibility in switching up to 64 video sources to up to 128 displays located throughout the 68,000-sq.-ft. gaming area and adjacent hotel lobby. Magenta’s MultiView Series transmitters and receivers will be connected to the sources and displays, enabling them to be separated 1,000ft. to 1,500ft. without any decrease in video quality. This industry-leading video extension ability allowed the casino’s audio/visual design firm, Engineering Plus LLC of Burr Ridge, Ill., to specify only one video control room, rather than several that would have been required using other methods. Vistacom, of Allentown, Pa., was selected for integration and installation of all audiovisual systems throughout the resort.

“During the design phase, it became evident that the most efficient approach would be to incorporate Magenta’s Cat-5 matrix switcher and associated MultiView transceivers,” says Steve Kish, Engineering Plus’ AV project manager. “This will save quite a bit of rack space and shorten the installation time considerably, plus enable video distribution to displays throughout the casino and lobby from the control room, with no concern about signal loss.”

“The Magenta switching and distribution system was a perfect fit for this application. With time and space at a premium, the Cat-5 connections were invaluable in simplifying terminations, and reducing time and cost in installing cable,” says Jim Ferlino, Vistacom project executive. “Furthermore, Magenta provided very timely assistance in reconfiguring these systems to accommodate the expanded input/outputs and the requirement for RS-232 control over the Cat-5 system. We believe that this may become the standard for future large scale switching systems.”

“The Mondo Matrix has a unique skill set that has made it the switch of choice at casinos throughout the U.S.,” says Len Pond, Magenta’s inside sales manager. “Combined with MultiView’s longest-range, highest-resolution video extension, it’s the most effective way for casinos to feed their displays while future-proofing the installation.”

“The success of the project was the result of several organizations working together, including Sapphire Marketing, our regional manufacturer’s rep,” says Director of Sales Mike Almasy.
