NSCA now offers two certifications aimed at candidates with different levels of experience. Joining forces with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA), it formed the Electronic Systems Professional Alliance (ESPA). ESPA seeks to unite the electronics industries in education and certification. The ESPA Certified-EST credential is targeted toward professionals with at least one year of work experience. The exam covers electrical basics; tools; construction methods and materials; wiring and installation practices; and standards, codes and safety practices. The ESPA Certifed-EST exam costs $199. An exam assessment, an online review, and an instructor-led review course are offered to help candidates prepare for the exam. Information on the ESPA Certified-EST exam and training materials can be found at

NSCA’s Electronic Systems Technician-Level 2 (EST-L2) certification is aimed at candidates with two to four years of experience in system integration. The exam covers four major segments: Project Start-Up, Rough-In Installation, Termination and Component Installation, and System Activation and Project Closeout. EST-L2 exam costs $299 for NSCA members and $369 for nonmembers. Exams are administered at a proctored testing facility near the candidate. Exam assessments and review courses are available.

Many AV industry manufacturers also offer training programs and certifications on their products. The following companies are among those that have established and recognized certifications within the industry.
