Planar Systems’ Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy, Jennifer Davis has been elected to serve on the Board of Trustees of Marathon Scholars, a non-profit organization that helps increase college attainment for low-income students in the Portland Metro and SW Washington area. In her new role as a member of the board of directors, Davis will work to further the mission of making college a reality for talented students.
Marathon Scholars’ executive director Stephen Wasserberger said, “We are pleased to welcome Jennifer Davis to the board of directors. Jennifer’s passion for mentoring students in combination with her marketing acumen and technology expertise will be an asset to our program. We are grateful for her commitment to our scholars.”
Marathon Scholars is a non-profit organization that helps increase college attainment for low-income students. The organization currently supports 130 students in the Portland Metro area. Starting in 4th grade, Scholars are matched with a mentor who commits to spend 3-4 hours with them each month. Scholars receive individualized guidance, advising, and college prep programming all the way to and through college, and can be eligible to receive a $12,000 college scholarship. Since the program began sponsoring students in 2003, the percentage of Marathon Scholars graduating from college is seven times higher than the average for first generation college students.
