Polycom announced the availability of HDX Large Classroom and HDX Small Classroom, the first integrated classroom solutions for HD videoconferencing for the education environment, corporate training environments, medical facilities, and government agencies.

Both HDX Large Classroom and HDX Small Classroom are customizable and include Polycom HDX 9000 videoconferencing products with Polycom’s unique UltimateHD architecture. UltimateHD is the industry’s only end-to-end HD solution featuring videoconferencing endpoints supporting HD voice, video, and content; multipoint bridges; integrated recording, streaming and video content management solutions; and associated scheduling and management applications. The HDX Classroom solutions include special segment icons, a segment designed remote control unit, and closed captioning for special education classes, allowing educators to communicate with hearing-impaired students and those who speak different languages.

Used in conjunction with Polycom’s RMX 2000 realtime media conferencing platform for multipoint conferences, the integrated RSS 2000 recording and streaming server and new Video Media Center (VMC) 1000 video content management solution, institutions can create anytime, video-enhanced learning with the highest levels of quality delivered. This option provides webcasting, on-demand content, advanced multicasting, and editing capabilities to either HDX Classroom solution.

“These HDX Classroom solutions are complete e-learning and online solutions designed to help educators greatly enhance their instructional design by incorporating high-definition video, closed captioning, and the capabilities of People On Content into their distance- and blended-learning curriculum,” says Russ Colbert, global education market director at Polycom. “Education technology leveraging video communications and content provides great benefits to students and teachers alike. With education-specific solutions, we hope to enable more institutions to reap the benefits of incorporating high-definition video conferencing and live and on-demand video content into their distance learning programs.”

Both HDX Classroom solutions provide educators free access to the benefits of People On Content, which permits them to add backgrounds as part of video content or a video conference, including movie clips, detailed pictures or CAD drawings from any video source connected to an HDX. It also enables educators to step inside their presentation, giving the illusion they are “on-location.” In addition to the People On Content capabilities, the HDX Large Classroom supports calls up to 6Mbps and specifically includes Polycom HDX 9004 videoconferencing system with embedded eight-way multipoint capability, two EagleEye cameras (and mounting bracket), HDX ceiling mic array, Media Center Cart dual displays with speakers, Media Center Cart single display with speakers, and an HDX 9004 cable kit. With the HDX Large Classroom, educators can equip a full-size distance-learning environment, incorporating ceiling microphones and video for ease of use in addition to the advanced capabilities of the HDX 9004 system.

The HDX Small Classroom supports calls up to 4Mbps and features a tightly integrated combination of high-definition and advanced Polycom products to easily accommodate smaller classroom instruction and applications. Solution components include Polycom HDX 9002 videoconferencing system with four-way multipoint capability, EagleEye camera (and mounting bracket), Media Center Cart and dual displays with speakers.
HDX Classroom purchases qualify for enrollment in Polycom’s Honors program, which includes discounts, specific and enhanced academic applications training on the HD equipment, and professional memberships in the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) or the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN).

Polycom’s HDX Classroom solutions are globally available today through qualified Polycom channel partners.
