On an ordinary afternoon, a bunch of people driving in Seattle in their Mazdas that were built sometime between 2014 and 2017 tuned in to the local public radio station, KUOW 94.9. Something in the signal bricked their car’s infotainment center, which meant the car’s digital clocks, Bluetooth capabilities, and built-in maps were all broken, permanently.
In this video by the YouTube channel Half as Interesting, the phenomenon is explained, for all the cold comfort provided to those affected (irresistible for the rest of us). The YouTuber explains that this partially results from how these cars were built, but it’s also a problem with how this radio station broadcasts its radio signals.
