Anchor Bay Technologies announced that its ABT1010 Precision Video Scaling technology — part of its Video Reference Series™ (VRS™) — has been chosen by Arcam for use in its new DiVA DV137 1080p, up-scaling universal DVD player.

The DV137 is Arcam’s pioneering universal DVD player, which supplies high-resolution pictures direct to the display using its HDMI output, bypassing the low-cost scaling chips inside most of today’s digital video displays. Powered by Anchor Bay’s ABT1010 scaling engine, the DV137 up-converts standard-definition (480p, 576p) formats from the DVD decoder and outputs any resolution from VGA (640×480) to 1080p (1920×1080), with multiple standard and custom aspect ratios.

“No other scaling solution can match the ABT1010’s outstanding reference quality performance, up to 1080p, at such an extraordinary value,” said Charlie Brennan, CEO of Arcam. “We also found the ABT1010 chips easy to install and configure, allowing us to speed up the DV137’s time to market.”

Anchor Bay’s ABT1010 scaling engine is based on proprietary video scaling technologies that can independently scale an image horizontally and vertically to achieve outstanding picture quality for today’s high-resolution video displays. The ABT1010 is completely flexible, accepting 480p/576p formats and outputting any resolution from VGA (640×480) to 1080p (1920×1080) with no ringing or other artifacts often found in lesser-quality scaling engines.

“Anchor Bay is honored that Arcam has chosen our ABT1010 scaling engine over other available solutions,” said Craig Soderquist, CEO at Anchor Bay. “Our Precision Video Scaling technology is the reference standard for up-converting standard-definition video from DVD players to higher-definition formats, including 1080p, and is a perfect complement to the audio/video quality already available on the DV137.”

Anchor Bay’s Precision Video Scaling is but one of the video processing solutions marketed under the VRS umbrella. Other VRS brand technologies include Anchor Bay’s RightRate™, AutoCUE-C™, Precision AV LipSync™, and the new Precision Deinterlacing™ technology.
