ICIA Releases Revised Online Course

ICIA has released its revised online course, Essentials of the AV Industry. The course provides students with the fundamentals of A/V technology used by industry professionals on a daily basis, including instruction on how audiovisual equipment works and how it's applied. More than 6,000 people have been enrolled in it since it debuted in 1997, and there are more than 1,000 current enrollments. The updated version marks the second major revision to the course since it was first offered in 1997 and results from the collaboration of many industry professionals who provided hundreds of years of collective education and experience to the project.

IAAM Joins ESTA Council

The International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) has accepted a permanent seat on ESTA's new Certification Council. The Certification Council is the governing body that will manage the development and implementation of a new industry-wide certification program for entertainment technology technicians. IAAM President Joe Floreano, CFE, appointed Don Hancock — PhD, CAE, and IAAM's director of education, research, and development — as its representative to the council and Robyn Williams, CFE and executive director of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, as its alternate representative. The certification program encourages an emphasis on safety as a primary concern within the entertainment and venue management industries.

PALA to Feature Laser Show

This year's PALA will host a sophisticated laser show. The laser show has been created by LOBO and demonstrates the application of LOBO's newly developed Scanline laser video technology. The Scanline presents the high-resolution video images by means of conventional laser projectors. Parts of the show, published in advance, have been awarded Graphics Show of the Year by U.S.-based International Laser Display Association. PALA is scheduled for October 1 through 3, 2003 in Singapore.
