INFOCOMM NAMED THE FASTEST-GROWING ASSOCIATION TRADESHOW

InfoComm International, the trade association serving the professional AV industry, has the fastest-growing association-owned tradeshow, according to Tradeshow Week Magazine.

The 2007 Fastest 50 Tradeshows are based on net square footage and the percentage of growth from 2004 to 2006. In this time frame, InfoComm grew from 647 exhibitors in 319,680 square feet of exhibit space in 2004 to 770 exhibitors in more than 432,602 square feet in 2006, reflecting a 35-percent increase in demand for space and 19 percent more exhibitors.

“InfoComm is honored to be named the fastest-growing association tradeshow,” says Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., executive director of InfoComm International. “It’s rewarding to see the vigorous economic trends in the AV industry echoed in the strength of our show. InfoComm’s robust educational offerings and strong partners have allowed InfoComm to deliver outstanding value to our exhibitors and attendees.”

InfoComm 07, held in Anaheim, Calif., was the biggest tradeshow in the history of the industry, with 861 exhibitors occupying 496,000 square feet of paid exhibits, special events, and demo meeting space. Another record-breaker is expected when InfoComm 08 is held June 18-20 in Las Vegas. For more information please visit www.infocomm.org/events.

CEDIA Management Conference 2008: Profit from Experience

Online registration is now open for this year’s conference, to be held Feb. 27-March 1, 2008, at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego.

The Management Conference can help you refresh and refocus. Pick yourself up out of the day-to-day tasks of running your business, take a step back, and get a clean look at your company’s strengths and opportunities, in addition to insight from colleagues. Don’t think you have to struggle through small-business challenges alone. The 2008 Management Conference provides a non-competitive environment where you can share your concerns with peers who have found solutions to the same trials your business is experiencing.

CEDIA’s Management Conference 2008 offers an excellent lineup of keynote speakers. These presentations will provide you with motivation and insight as well as a great opportunity to network with your peers.

Kevin Carroll — Rediscovering Play: Bringing Fun and Passion to Your Work…and Life. Kevin Carroll uses his masterful storytelling skills and vast experience to entertain, enlighten, and challenge business leaders and worldwide audiences. Using lessons garnered from the spirit and dynamics of play, Carroll helps attendees understand how to enliven and enrich their work lives, enhance innovation, and improve team dynamics and interpersonal communication.

Scott McKain — What Customers Really Want. This program shows you how to bridge the gap between what your organization offers and what your clients crave. Create compelling experiences through an effective three-step plan: 1) Create a “high concept” to sharpen your focus on your unique strengths. 2) Use the power of story to create an emotional connection between you and your customers and employees. 3) Design the ultimate customer experience that will amaze, astound, and thrill your customers and employees.

Richard Worzel — Managing for More: How the Future Will Affect Your Operations — and Your Profits! As fast as consumer electronics are changing, the business model necessary for success is changing just as quickly. As competition mounts and consumers become more sophisticated and more demanding, your future profitability will depend on acquiring new skills and greater foresight. Richard Worzel, a strategic planner and futurist, will give you a blueprint on how to manage for more and how to turn today’s success into tomorrow’s greatest hits.

Online registration for Management Conference 2008 is now officially open. Early-bird discount registration ends Jan. 30, 2008. Visit www.cedia.org/mc for event details and to hear alumni attendees describe their experience.

NSCA CELEBRATES RECORD ATTENDANCE AT FALL BUSINESS CONFERENCE

More than 180 people attended NSCA’s 10th annual Fall Business Conference. The event was held Oct. 21-23 at Paradise Point Resort in San Diego. The NSCA Education Foundation hosted its third annual Silent Auction at the conference and raised more than $11,000. Funds raised from this event will support student scholarships and education for industry professionals.

Industry and professional speakers provided unique leadership, management, and networking programs. Keynote Steve Farber challenged the audience with his presentation on extreme leadership based on his books, The Radical Leap and The Radical Edge.

According to Southern Business Communications President Daniel Boylan, the Fall Business Conference had excellent keynote speakers who all offered different perspectives. “I liked being able to interact with other members to share stories and how to solve real-life problems,” he says.

The next NSCA Business Conference, sponsored by InfoComm, is planned for the early spring of 2009. Stay tuned for more details about this exciting event.

EST LEVEL TRAINING

Do your technical workers have the education and skills they need to get the job done right? If you’re unsure, check out NSCA University’s EST Training Series. Genesis Communications, based in Edmonton, Alberta, chose to send all of its technicians through the training. In fact, the employees took the course simultaneously in two cities via video-conferencing.

“The most important thing is every single tech has the same baseline; we talk about [jobs] in the same format,” says Howard Humeny, senior project manager at Genesis Communications.

Among other skills, your employees will learn to:

  • Interpret electrical drawings
  • Use selected cable testers
  • Understand the open systems interconnection (OSI) model
  • Recognize the root causes of system and equipment failures
  • Learn the difference between RB, RGB, sync-on-green, and RGBHV.

NSCA University’s online assessment is the best way to gauge which level of training is best suited for your employees.

Call (800) 446-6722 and ask for Richard Moffitt to enroll.

The next training begins on Jan. 14, 2008. The last day to register is Dec. 28, 2007.
